Earth Day

MWM Going Green

As a company who focuses not only on providing our customers with the highest quality metal, but also recycling and repurposing metal, we have always been particularly invested in Earth Day.  It is not just about being a “green” company; it is about running a business that is conscious of our environment and being able to reuse a wide variety of metal products.

About Earth Day

Earth day was first established in 1970 and is now celebrated on April 22 in 192 countries across the world. In 1970 Americans were using an abundance of gasoline to fuel large sedans, air pollution was commonplace and factories were putting dangerous chemicals into the atmosphere without repercussion. Earth Day in 1970 focused on awareness, making use of the anti-war movement and bringing environmental destruction to the forefront.

Gaylord Nelson, a Wisconsin Senator, came up with the idea for Earth Day after the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, California.  He wanted to create public awareness about air and water pollution in an effort to force environmental protection to be present in the political arena. On April 22, 20 million Americans participated nationwide pushing for protection, preservation and conservation of the environment and speaking out against sewage disposal, toxins, pesticides, oil spills and air pollution.

The ongoing fight to preserve our environment becomes increasingly more urgent as we see shifts in climate, pollution, deforestation and air quality.  We encourage everyone to get involved in the protection, preservation and awareness of Earth Day. Each and every person can make a difference and can get involved.
